Boho Chic

Summer is finally here in the city and this weekend I decided to take advantage and head out to 17th ave for a stroll. I came across a market set up at Tomkins Park and was immediately drawn to a booth called The Bohemian Hobo, a local company making hand made jewelry. For those that me know, they know that I LOVE me some accessories. The handmade items are gorgeous, unique and a lot of fun.

I couldn't resist picking up one of the fabulous bracelets pictured above. The feather earrings are also eye catching and very fashion forward.

The prices are reasonable and you are supporting local artists, it couldn't get any better. LOVE!

Must have piece

While browsing through one of my favorite stores, Peridot (Check out Blog Post: Pretty Peridot May 2010) I came across these lovely side tables. I was struck by them immediately. I have seen inlay work before but these are done in a grey wash with shell inlay. The grey colouring works so well with the iridescent shell. I think these would be perfect paired with a modern bed with a high upholstered headboard.

These will cost you a pretty penny, at almost $2200 each but well worth it when you think about the work that has gone into making each piece!!! DIVINE!

UpCycled Jewelry

A friend of mine that is living in New York told me about this great line of jewelry that is made out of plastic bags. The company is called Garbage of Eden Design and they are an eco-friendly design and craft business. They make their pieces from upcycled plastics found around NYC.

I love it! The idea is great, eco-friendly, and the pieces are quite stylish and have a bit of a bohemian/ethnic flair to them. A plastic bag is better on your wrist than around a poor birds neck.

Nate Day

Interiors by Nate Berkus (love the photo wall)

Interiors by Nate Berkus (note the wallpaper on the back wall, Delish!)

Bedding line created by Nate Berkus

Today marks the first ever Nate Day started by the Moggitgirls on Twitter. The concept of Nate Day was to get Nate Berkus (Oprah's fave interior designer) to be-friend them on facebook. It has exploded into an overwhelming response with design bloggers around the globe tweeting and posting about Nate Day, myself included.

Nate Berkus will be starting his own show on September 13, 2010. I love that Nate has become his own brand. Something that I have always wanted for myself. I also love that his designs are versatile, eclectic and never look the same. I think that is so important that ones designs should never look the same, after all, you are designing for all types of clients. No one person is the same, their interiors shouldn't be either.

Congratulations Nate!!!

Fashion Meets Design- Shoot for Parlour Magazine

Parlour Magazine recently launched here in Calgary. The focus is on fashion, design, and anything local and fabulous. Once a year they do a Home issue and I was asked to contribute something for their most recent edition. Since fashion and design always go hand in hand, I thought to do a spread on fashion meets design. When looking through magazines such as Surface and Wallpaper I am always drawn to the shoots that are highly styled with not only clothes and accessories but with home accents as well.

I scouted a friends basement that is filled with vintage items. The goal was to create a shoot inspired by all things vintage: clothing, accessories, and furniture. I love incorporating old with new with my interiors and I think this shows that you can do that.

Big Rock Eddies

Crowd starts to gather in the main hall

Mike Morrison (Mike's Bloggity Blog) and Kelly Doody (Calgary Herald)

Outfits that made an impact on the red carpet

The Style Guys and the girls from SHAW TV, looking gorgeous!

We were invited to The Big Rock Eddies this year as special guests. The event takes place every year and is a celebration of Big Rock, a brewery that is Albertan through and through and that is celebrating its 25th anniversary. People are invited to enter a contest to design a print ad or a commercial and the winners are announced at the event. The event started off as a local contest but now has contestants from around Canada.

One of the big features (not only just the beer) is a red carpet entrance. Limos pull up to the red carpet and guests are greeted by hosts and papparazzi snapping photos and asking questions. Guests are also encouraged to dress up for the red carpet to make an impact and we sure did see some outfits that made an impression... good and bad!

Congratulations to the winners of the ad contests! We look forward to attending next year and maybe hosting the red carpet!!!

USED- Fabulous Vintage Finds

While out shopping this past weekend, I came across a new store on Calgary's busy shopping street, 17th ave sw. The store is called USED (Love the name!) and it's filled with stunning vintage finds from flowing ball gowns, leather goods, hats, and accessories of all kinds. The owners do all their shopping in the US and BC where they hand pick each item.

This store is perfect for those that want great vintage finds but don't want to spend hours scouring VV boutiques and consignment stores. I myself find that to be a great way to spend a sunday afternoon, but whatever your taste, USED is a great find in this city and it's about time!

My fave was a set of Gucci luggage and a bowl of amazing rings at the front desk.
