Premiere Interiors Grand Opening

Last night was the launch of Premiere Interiors, a new showroom here in Calgary that is a one stop shop for designers. They carry everything from flooring, kitchen cabinets, appliances, counters, and best of all The Bio Flame Fireplaces.

These fabulous fireplaces are the perfect eco-friendly option for your space. They are easy to install and best of all don't require any venting. How perfect! I am the spokesperson for these fireplaces and stand behind them 100%. They are modern in their look and think they would be perfect in any space. We will be doing a nation-wide launch in the coming months so stay tuned.

The Kid Belo- Procession

I attended a private opening last night of a good friend of mines Art Show. It was held at The Gallery, a hip gallery carrying the best in urban items.

This was David Brunnings first solo show and it was AMAZING! I love his pieces because they are edgy, urban and unique. You can see from the photos that he takes his cue from his love and passion for Graffiti. You can check out other pieces he has done on his website: www.thekidbelo.com

Keep an eye out for David as I am sure he is going to explode nationally soon. He has an upcoming art show in Toronto which he is very excited about. I will keep you posted!

Cinder+Smoke

Jana Clearwater is a Manitoba based womens wear designer. Her collections almost have a vintage vibe to them and as if there is anything that I like more than vintage!  This is why I decided to have her items at Smyth&Kang. As creative director of the store, I thought her clothes really fit in well with what we were trying to achieve at Smyth. Jana's eye for construction and detail is fabulous as she does all her own manufacturing!!! Not an easy task! For more on Cinder+Smoke, visit www.cinderandsmoke.com

Items shown: Ruby Dress, Ginger Blouse, Lucy dress

Great Design!

Greg Ball is an amazing talent right out of Alberta. I first met him a few years back during the Home and Interior Design Show where I featured his work on a feature that I designed for the show. His work is unique and has an Alberta edge which I love. Check out his website at www.johngregball.com for more information. His pieces will also be sold at Smyth&Kang in the coming weeks so stay tuned!

Pieces shown: Meathead Mirror, Hoodo Rack, Otto Chair.

Price for Design

Who says design has to be expensive? Its so easy to achieve a look of high style on a budget. This photo was taken of a show suite I designed for a new condo project. The look is clean, uncluttered but still says: I put time and thought into my interior. Here a few tips for you on how to achieve high style on a budget

1. Homesense is your friend! Shop for accessories on the cheap. This place is fabulous for pillows and accents that are needed to pull a space together.
2. Think outside the box. For example, I like to frame leftover wallpaper using inexpensive frames. It's a great way to add some bold pattern in a room and this way you are not investing in a whole wall of pattern, just bits and pieces.
3. Invest in quality. For the large pieces in your space such a sofa, spend a little more and get something that will last.
4. Sale! Sale! Sale! Always head to the sale section first to see what goodies you can find. You'll be happy you did.
